Dealing With Aging And The Treatments To Help Restore A Youthful Appearance

If you’re concerned about aging, or rather the signs of aging (we all have to age unfortunately!), it’s best to consider an all-round holistic approach. What causes aging?

There are two types of aging: intrinsic (genetic) and extrinsic (environmental). We are, in a sense, at the mercy of intrinsic aging. Exposure to UV throughout our lives, be it incidental day-to-day sunlight somewhere like Ireland or those sun holidays you take every now and again, all impacts on skin. The UV rays penetrate the skin and damage the cells, resulting in dullness, loss of firmness, dark spots and lines. UV damage is also responsible for most cases of skin cancer, so the sun is something to be mindful of for many reasons.

So how can we slow the clock of aging, as it were? There are a few things you can do.

Use SPF every day

Most skin experts will tell you, if you’re concerned about the signs of aging and want to take steps to minimise it, the best thing you can do is to use a good quality, broad spectrum SPF every day.

Pay attention to more than your face as well, as the neck, décolletage and backs of hands and make sure to protect them properly, as all show the effects of the sun – and all should be protected from a skin cancer perspective too.

Give your lifestyle a health upgrade

Anyone who has undergone a period of stress or sleeplessness will know that these factors have a visible effect on skin, from deepening frown lines to the lifeless dullness skin experiences after a time under stress. For so many reasons it’s important to get stress levels in check and take time out to relax. Team this with a healthy diet, rich in fruit and vegetables and low in processed carbohydrates and sugar. Drink lots of water and, of course, if you smoke, try to give up or cut back. You will soon see the positive effects on your face.
