Threadlift: Restoring A Youthful Appearance Without The Surgery

While most people these days know that there are treatments and procedures out there that can help turn back the clock to fight the signs of ageing, or at least slow its effects, they may not fully appreciate just how many options there are.

There can be a perception that it is a case of ‘nothing – or a facelift’ and that is really not the case. Many of my clients don’t really want to go down the route of surgical procedures such as a facelift just yet, but think it is the only option available to them by the time they come to my practice. They can be relieved to hear that there is a lot that can be done before reaching that stage.

I am a huge fan of a ‘less is more’ approach; using incremental treatments to subtly address issues like a loss of firmness, sagging, or lines. As well as being less of a dramatic treatment, it is a way of achieving natural-looking results and helping the patient work with what is still great about their appearance. Following on from a good skincare regime, injectables such as Botox or dermal fillers can be a very effective first step into non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments and are targeted to specific areas.

Now there is also another interesting and very effective treatment that is much less invasive than a facelift but can nevertheless give good results. It’s called a threadlift and the name indicates how it works and the effect it has: it uses forms of thread to lift a sagging face.

The jowls and chin or neck area tend to start to sag as we enter our 30s or 40s, and whereas before a neck lift or face lift would be needed, now a threadlift can do a successful job to restore a youthful appearance. It is a temporary treatment, but results last for up to 18 months and it can be done more than once. A threadlift is also significantly more affordable than a facelift.

So how does it work? It involves the insertion of special threads made from a dissolvable polylactic acid into areas of the face. The polylactic acid also has the function of helping to stimulate collagen which, as we all know, is essential for plump, youthful-looking skin. These threads are then pulled up at certain points, which results in a more lifted appearance, with more defined contours.

As I mentioned, it is much less invasive than procedures such as a facelift and the treatment can be carried out under local anaesthetic. It involves the numbing of certain points on the face, after which the special threads are inserted with a very fine needle, then pulled up to lift and tighten the face.

It is also possible to manipulate points of the face to further enhance results. I find a threadlift also works very well in conjunction with fillers and Botox. The key to good procedures and treatments is a personalised, customised approach.

I have seen excellent results with the threadlift and it is a viable option for many people who are seeking to restore a more youthful look without committing to surgery.
