Popular Cosmetic Procedures For Men

Men

Where once it might have been unusual for a man to pay much attention to his appearance, grooming and looking your best are very much the norm now. You could say the era of ‘the metrosexual’ is over and today, there is really nothing newsworthy about men wanting to look good.

There may be a number of reasons for this, I think. Undoubtedly, there is a pressure on men (as there is on women) to stay youthful and vibrant for as long as possible. In particular, in a work environment it can be important for a man to look fresh and have a youthful feeling. It may also be the case that a man has had a long-held concern about a particular feature and is now keen to take steps to address it.

I find too that a lot of male patients are concerned about looking, if not older, then perhaps a little tired and are seeking something to help refresh their appearance. There are many treatments that can achieve this aim and I have outlined some of the most popular ones below, along with other procedures that men commonly ask for.

Rhinoplasty

The nose is at the centre of the face and as such has a huge impact on our appearance. When there is an issue regarding it – perhaps it’s too large, too small, or is crooked – it can knock all other features out of sync. There may also be practical issues too, regarding breathing and snoring. A rhinoplasty procedure, or, as it’s more commonly known, a nose job, can address these concerns and restore symmetry to the face.

Fillers

As we age, the face tends to develop fine lines and, in time, deep wrinkles. We also lose volume in the face as our collagen levels decline. This can result in things like sagging jowls, sunken cheeks and in general a more aged appearance. Dermal fillers are a very effective way of filling in these lines and restoring the lost volume in areas. As it’s not a permanent procedure it can be reassuring for someone who is not used to having injectables or any sort of treatment. Results can be very natural-looking and there is no down time either.

Botox

When administered properly, and with a restrained hand, Botox can give excellent, natural- looking results. Botox, a brand of the botulinum toxin, is applied via a tiny needle and temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and deep lines. It not only addresses the specific lines it is used on; patients often find that there is a general, overall improvement in the appearance too. The aim should be to give the whole face a refreshed appearance.

Ear surgery

Ears can be another common problem for people. Particularly for men, having ears that stick out or protrude can cause issues around self-esteem and confidence levels. I often perform otoplasty– ear correction – procedures but a recent innovation called earFold has really helped in this area and in most cases, it can be used as an alternative to surgery.

Simple clips made from metal alloys are instead inserted into the ear during a simple procedure and work immediately to pin back protruding ears. The results are very good and lead to great patient satisfaction.

If you are considering ways to fight the signs of aging with non-invasive treatments, or a cosmetic surgery procedure to enhance your natural appearance, we can advise on the best options for you. Contact us to arrange a consultation.
