Fillers For The Labiomental Crease To Restore A Youthful Look To The Face

Youthful

One of the often-overlooked aspects of dealing with the signs of ageing is that you don’t have to deal with everything all at once. Targeted treatment and a ‘less is more’ approach is my preferred approach for a number of reasons. Firstly, it gives a more natural-looking result and secondly, dealing with just a few key areas by themselves can have big effect on the appearance as a whole.

Some properly administered dermal fillers, or Botox, for example, can rejuvenate a tired complexion completely and restore a more youthful look to the entire face. When you start out with these minimal, targeted treatments, you can adopt a step-by-step approach. Quite often only small tweaks are needed to keep the face looking youthful for longer and you can progress from there as and when needed in the future.

The more expressive areas of the face, such as around the eyes and the mouth, tend to show signs of ageing sooner. This is because, as you’d imagine, the muscles in these areas need to blink, frown, eat, laugh, etc, working non-stop, day in and day out. This leads to lines becoming deeper and more prominent in these areas. Some traditionally problematic areas include the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the outer corners of the mouth) and the marionette lines that can develop from the outer corners of the mouth down the chin.

The labiomental crease is also an area that, when it is prominent, can give an aged appearance to the whole face. It is the horizontal indentation under the lower lip and separates a horizontal and a vertical muscle. For some people, it can be quite a deep depression in this area of the face and this can lead to the chin looking more prominent than it is in reality. It can also make a person look older than their years.

However, it is quite easy to treat this area and the use of a dermal filler will help to plump up the indentation and give added volume. There are a number of fillers available on the market and they vary in consistency, making them suitable for specific jobs or particular areas. The effects are not permanent but can last for months. In the case of the labiomental crease, I would use a more viscous (or thicker) filler to restore volume in this area. A longer-lasting filler would also be beneficial.

Fillers tend to be made of hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the body, and in the hands of an experienced practitioner with a strong aesthetic sense of beauty and harmony, treatment with fillers is straightforward in this area. A comprehensive consultation should answer any questions the patient may have and give them a clear view of what results are possible. The labiomental crease sits between the lip and the chin, thus it is addressed as part of the treatment plan to achieve a balanced and natural perioral and lower face rejuvenation.

For the practitioner’s part, an experienced hand will maximise the effect of using minimal product. This helps to ensure that the results look natural and in keeping with the patient’s own features and their personal aesthetic. Treating the labiomental crease will not only address the issue with that particular area but will also help to give a refreshed appearance to the entire face.

If you are considering a cosmetic procedure to restore a youthful look to your labiomental crease or any other part of your face or body, contact my clinic to arrange a consultation.
