A Look At The Most Popular Cosmetic Surgery Procedures in Ireland

December 5, 2016
Popular Procedures

According to a recent survey from healthcare search engine WhatClinic, breast implants, rhinoplasty (nose job) and otoplasty (ear correction) are the three most popular cosmetic procedures inquired about in Ireland.

Interestingly, the same survey noted a significant increase in queries about brow lifts and blepharoplasty (peri-orbital or eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of aging eyelids), highlighting them as Ireland’s fastest growing cosmetic surgery trends last year.

There is speculation that celebrities can inspire trends towards certain procedures and while they might prompt people to make queries or send an email to a cosmetic surgeon’s clinic, I believe the true impact of celebrity culture is not so significant.

In my experience, people have procedures to change or improve something that has long caused them unhappiness or affected their self-confidence. For my clients, it is not about trends or aspiring to have the same appearance as a celebrity, it’s about feeling happier within themselves.

While a procedure might make you more confident and comfortable with your appearance, afterwards you will still be you, and it’s important to understand that.

That said, in my practice, there are most definitely certain procedures that I find people look for. Some of the more popular surgeries I perform include

Aesthetic 1

Rhinoplasty (or nose job)

This is one of my favourite procedures to perform as it can have significant impact (both cosmetic and psychologically) on the patient. As the nose is really the centre of the face, it is a precise surgery that requires a surgeon to have good artistic skill, a meticulous attention to detail and, of course, technical surgical skills.

Blepharoplasty (peri-orbital or eyelid surgery)

This can have dramatic results for the patient – and the techniques involved today are much more advanced. The surgery is more anatomically detailed now and the aim is to restore natural looking shape and contours to the face.

Lower rhytidectomy (or neck lift)

A neck lift is an effective treatment to help enhance or revive an aging face. It can also be used to streamline a double chin, creating a more defined silhouette.

Rhytidectomy (or facelift)

It is no surprise that there is increased interest in this procedure as it can be very effective in making the face look younger - perhaps more than you might think.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty

I find there is a high patient satisfaction rate with this surgery. The procedure, commonly known as a ‘tummy tuck’, involves sculpting and contouring the stomach, or abdomen area, to remove excess fat and skin and create a smoother, tighter appearance.

Breast Augmentation

Undoubtedly one of the most common cosmetic surgeries requested by my female patients and one that gives great patient satisfaction. It is about so much more than increasing the cup size, and the treatment requires a full consultation and clinical examination to ensure the implant choice works well with the patient’s overall body shape and appearance.

Other cosmetic procedures I often perform include otoplasty (ear correction) and split ear surgery; liposuction, liposculpturing and brachioplasty, and breast surgery in men (gynaecomastia).
